Visting Jacqueline Lawton...

This week I went and visited the studio of Jacqueline Lawton, Sandpiper Glass Studio, in Weare, NH. I wanted her help with testing some tools and I wanted to take some photographs of some of my tools being used. We had lots of fun!

Here, Jacqueline starts applying glass along the inside of a heart shaped Grooved Cabochon Insert.
Working around the inside.
Now she has filled the inside. Note that there is no glass on the "face" of the inserts.
Now, she squishes the heart to push the glass over the edge and out onto the face of the inserts. This forms the groove.
Here Jacqueline is working with the V Pendant Insert.
Heating up a gather for the Six Point Star Optic Mold.
Making a bead in preparation to use the Skull Mold.
She heats one side of the bead till it's droopy, but keeps the top side cool enough to be stiff. She found it's best to get the shape right on the first try.
Holding it in place for a second.
A freshly formed skull. Sorry about the blurriness. I'm going to be getting a better digital camera.
This is Gretchen. She likes to sleep in the studio.
Jacqueline came up with the idea of using a marker to mark the length of the curved mandrel to cover with glass when using the Curved Mandrel with the Curved Focal Press.
Back to sleep, Gretchen.
This is Boomer. I don't think he ever sleeps.
Laying glass down on the curved mandrel. Unfortunately, the ink from the marker faded in the heat.
More glass. This is harder then it looks with the curved mandrel.
Boomer *really* likes to play fetch. These are his "I'm-so-sad-won't-you-please-play-fetch?" eyes.
Getting the glass good and hot in preparation for pressing...
The press in action...
And voila! A nicely shaped curved bead!
Boomer really wants to play fetch.
But Jacqueline isn't done yet.... time for silver wire...
And around and around....
Nice!
That's Frank on the right.
Boomer thinks.... "Look... I brought the ball to you.... can't you at least throw it?"... We went outside, and Boomer went tearing through the snow after that ball.
This is Doc, her horse.
Doc giving Jacqueline a raspberry.
Bye Doc!

Jacqueline teaches one-on-one in her very nice studio that you see here. She also teaches group classes at River Art Studios in Nashua, NH.

Thanks to Jacqueline for having me over!
