I will sell a few left over odds and ends on eBay in the coming weeks. I will send out email to my mailing list when that happens.
Ebony Star Formica Flexi-Strips
Safety First:
- Your Flexi-Strips have had their corners shanded, but they still can cut. If you trim Flexi-Strips they will have VERY SHARP edges. Please carefully sand the corners after trimming and before use.
- If you user power tools, always read the directions.
- Use dust collection. Dust is bad for your lungs.
- When using sharp hand tools, always apply pressure away from your body. Don't cut towards yourself!
- Wear safety glasses. Formica is especially prone to shattering.
Assembly:
- Cut the Flexi-Strip to the desired length, plus an inch extra. You can use a fine toothed hand saw, repeatedly score it with a utility knife, or use a mallet and chisel.
- Apply contact cement to both the strip and the bearing according to the cement directions.
- Apply carefully. Be sure to leave extra at both ends. You may want to set the bearing and formica edges flush on one side by assembling on a flat surface covered with wax paper.
- After it has had a few minutes to set, trim the ends.
- You can also trim it flush with the sides of the bearing with a *sharp* chisel. Remember to cut away from your body, arms and hands.
- Alternatively, you can sand it flush.
- REMEMBER to ease the edges with sandpaper. Formica edges can be razor sharp.
